I'd like to present the cover for book 3 in The Fairy Circle Series: FAIRY CHANGELING (formerly FAIRY ROUNDABOUT). The title change came about during Hurricane Sandy when Cyndi Stanton and I decided *roundabout* just brings cars to mind and that's not very romantic now, is it.
*In other news, my friend (let's call him Sean) told me about something very cool yesterday: Forest Bathing. Forest bathing, or Shinrinyoku, a Japanese term, is the practice of going out into the forest and soaking up the essence of nature to reduce stress. Super cool. :D Here, read this: http://www.hphpcentral.com/article/forest-bathing
Now, I'm off to tie up loose ends in CHANGELING.
Thank you, Cyndi!! :D
Thank you, Sean :o)
Have a wonderful weekend. :D

Hey Lovely Pink, thank you for asking about the ghost hunt at Scratchy Lady Bridge My official sounding name for Emily’s covered bridge in Stowe, VT.) I answered this question for you on FB just five minutes ago but the FB poltergeists froze Facebook juuuuuust when I was finishing up the second paragraph and I lost it all. !!@$##@&*!
We went hunting on June 17, 2012, an absolutely gorgeous summery day that Dawn Gray and I won’t soon forget. Dawn has already posted her pictures, with notes, and she has also posted the Youtube video which others have remarked on: flashes that are speedy bugs passing by, and incredibly fast flashes that aren’t bugs.
I was taking pictures with Dawn’s camera and with my cell phone. While using Dawn’s camera it *sparked* twice. I asked her if that was normal and she said, ‘hell, no.’ The first time I heard it and saw brightness, the second time I saw sparks with my left eye.
When I was taking pictures with my cell phone it stopped working after about 50 pictures and there was a message on the screen: Insert SD Card. The phone was very new at the time. I hadn’t had any trouble with it whatsoever and since I didn’t know its mechanics very well, I assumed I had hit my picture taking limit. I wanted to delete some photos and take more, but it wouldn’t let me off the advisory screen. I called Verizon a few days later and they said I didn’t need to insert an SD card – the phone already came with one and since I took any pictures at all, the card was indeed in the camera. They had me take the phone apart, find the SD card, pop it out and put it back in. VOILA! The camera works and I’ve taken several pictures since then. THAT was weird!
Dawn got pinched, but not hard enough for us to document it, damn it. And the batteries ran out far too soon on my cell, and on Dawn’s voice recorder.
I haven’t posted my stills yet, Dawn is shaking her head at me. I haven’t found anything on my stills but more beautiful bridge, lush foliage, and twinkling stream. And that’s my report. ;o) xojohanna frappierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764446262466298552noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3919091166441700745.post-55566042179837881842012-06-13T18:14:00.000-04:002012-06-13T18:17:32.281-04:00It's that time again: GHOST HUNTING WITH UBER NERDS
Well, my lovely Dawn Gray and I (Johanna Pontes Frappier) are going to Stowe, Vermont this weekend to our first paranormal research jaunt as A TEAM. She will be Face and I will be B.A. ^.^ We will be checking out the formidable Scratchy Lady Bridge. The lady at the bridge is reputed to be a real badass, doesn't like women, and often scratches them. The real name of the bridge eludes me; let's go to facebook and ask ...Dawn....Dawn....Dawn....johanna frappierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764446262466298552noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3919091166441700745.post-32844943468013946512012-06-13T10:22:00.000-04:002012-06-13T10:22:00.117-04:00GIVEAWAY TIME ^.^

Yay!johanna frappierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764446262466298552noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3919091166441700745.post-68797837791905321712012-03-30T08:28:00.005-04:002012-03-30T08:44:29.607-04:00Meet Sci-Fi Maverick, Jeanice DeeringHello dear Johanna!
Hi Jeanice, big hugs! Thank you so much for letting me pry into your sciencey mind today.

1. So, Jeanice, I must know, have you ever seen a UFO?
UFO's... I love that! I'm sure we saw one last summer. We were night fishing on a pond, floating in a boat, in Mason Valley. A light like an airplane was going from south to north, slower than unusual, and as I watched it quickly made a 90 dergee turn to the west and disappeared. Strange. My deceased father-in-law told me once when he was at Sutro Mine in the evening, (just south of Virginia City) he was followed by a UFO as he walked to his car. He ran when he got scared. He said the UFO disappeared after it followed his car for a couple of miles.

2. When did you start writing and doing your other art?
I have been an artist as long as I can remember. I can remember some things from infancy... maybe I was an artist even before that.

3. What inspired you to do it?
I like to promote beauty in everything I see. I can see it everywhere. I want people to know how exciting the Universe is. It's full of wonder and possibilities. Dr. Carl Sagan talked about Atomist Philosophy in his book, The Pale Blue Dot, and how all the universe is made of the same atoms as we are - awesome!

4. Any new projects coming up?
New projects: I am currently writing The Borgan, a prequel to 3470C.E. also, I have been drawing illustrations of 3470C.E. as a reference to what I see in my head.

5. Are you an independent artist, or are you represented by an agency?
I'm indie at this time. I have published some magazine articles- long time ago.

6. What are your habits when you sit down to create? Do you have to be in a certain room? Outside?
My habits: I have to be alone, in a quiet place. I write in a notebook by hand, work on it, and then when I get things close to the way I want them, I type them into Word.

7. Any favorite bands? Do you use music to inspire you as you create your art?
Favorite bands: Yes!! I love Type-O-Negative and truly miss Peter's voice. He passed 4 April 2010. NIN has super inspired me, Leaving Hope and Corona Radiata, I have mentioned in my credits. I will list a few others, but all of them would fill too many pages: Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, Filter, Opeth, Chevelle, Roxy Music,The Cure, The Cult, America, The Moody Blues, Peter Murphy - love, love, love! Yoko Kano did the music for "Ghost in the Shell," my fav anime.

8. What has been the hardest thing during the process of creating your art?
The hardest thing is getting alone time and not hurting people's feelings by telling them that interruptions can completely disturb my mind-set, which can take days to regain.

9. Will you ever stop creating art? Have you ever had a moment when you felt like quiting and why?
If I stopped creating, it would be because I have passed on to the next journey...but I think even then I would be creative.

10. Any websites you would like to share? Your own? or one that has helped you as an artist?
I am a member of Author Nation, a wonderful group of people. I recently lost my big boy (doggy) and haven't had the heart to write the poetry I post there lately, but I will again.

11. If you could go back in time and meet one person who would it be and why?
If I could go back in time, I would like to meet Black Elk (Hehaka Sapa.) He was a wonderful medicine man and I have dreamed of him. I so wish I could have helped him... Wounded Knee masacre tears a hole in my soul. Black Elk said that it isn't natural to live in a square box. He said all things in nature are round and that he had even heard that our Mother Earth, when seen from above, is round. He also told of Star People. That fascinates me.

12. What animals do you have?
My animals: We have two female American bulldogs who are sworn enemies and must be kept apart to avoid a deathmatch. We also have a flock of laying chickens and some turkeys- gobble gobble.

13. Favorite holiday...Halloween or Christmas?
Halloween!

14. Favorite word?
Flower, the very word brings up lovely images. As long as there are flowers, there is life.<

15. Do you sell your work in any stores? If so, where?
3470 C.E. is available locally in Reno at Sundance Books and Music, 121 California Ave. and at The Nevada Store, 3368 Lakeside Court. Also, online at Buy Books on the Web, which is my publisher's site, and on Amazon.
16. Is your art organic or do you plan it out before you create it?
I dwell in the collective memory that Dr. Carl Jung talks about and I gather from it; otherwise, books and interweb.

All the best xoxo,
Meet A Ghost Hunter :DIt's going to be a balmy 80 degrees here in Massachusetts today (should be in the 40s), and with this fantastic blast of sun I'm thinking...ghosts? I'm always thinking ghosts! It's no secret, I love my ghost hunters. I'd like to introduce you to Pamela Croker, top ghost hunter, savvy publicist, and gracious friend. I interviewed her recently and here is what she has to say for her sassy self:

1. When did you start working in the paranormal field?

March 2011.

2. What inspired you to work in the paranormal field?

My own personal experiences with the paranormal, plus Randy and Doris DeLong of M.O.P.S. (Maryville Old-School Paranormal Society).

3. Any projects/investigations coming up?

There is a private investigation of one of the most historic places, in Knoxville/Smoky Mountain area, that M.O.P.S. has exclusively been asked to do. I am hoping to be able to get out there and help with that investigation when Randy is able to start investigating again.
I’m also working with Paranormal Romance Author, Amy Armbruster, as her publicist. She has a new book coming out soon, Devon’s Curse, that is another wonderful story, although slightly different than her first book, Whispering Coves. I have been working with Amy to promote her first book, as well as helping to proof read the second book.

4. Do you find it hard to share your work with others?

Yes!! No one likes to be ridiculed when it comes to their beliefs. I am a very private person, so it’s hard for me to share what I’m passionate about unless I know the person fairly well, OR I feel comfortable with them right off the bat. The paranormal field has opened doors on some great new friendships with people that are just like me.

5. What is your opinion on teams who post bad/fake evidence?

To each their own. I think there are a lot of teams who are inexperienced in this field. Everyone is new to something at some point, and they may not know that their evidence is bad or it’s fake because of their lack of education or knowing that they do need to actively educate themselves. I think it’s up to seasoned investigators to make sure they approach another team with caution to help them learn. As far as those that do it on purpose, their true colors will shine through at some point, and karma is not a nice thing when it comes back on you.

6. What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?

Keep an open mind to learning, stay humble, work well with others, and most importantly -- play well with others! The paranormal is not a competition to see who can get the best evidence. I believe it’s to prove to the non-believers and the scientists, that there IS something going on in our world that is unexplained, beyond our comprehension.

7. Did your work in the paranormal field follow a particular experience that you had?

When I was really small, my dad and I lived with his girlfriend and three daughters in a double-wide trailer in Davie, Florida. His girlfriend was a widow, and her husband had passed away quite tragically a year or two before they moved in together. In our home, the lights would turn on and off at random, the stove burners would turn on of their own volition, and voices would be heard calling the name of someone else in the house when the house was completely quiet or you were alone, One instance in particular that happened on a nightly basis, is the master bathroom light would turn on. One night, my dad decided he was going to put masking tape over the light switch so it wouldn’t be turned on that night. The next morning, they woke up to the light turned on. Upon inspection, the masking tape had scratches through it so whatever it was could peel back the tape to turn the light on. I also lived in another house as an adult that was quite active. We saw apparitions and experienced activity there that no one can quite explain, even to this day.

8. How did you get started in the paranormal field?

Randy and Doris DeLong of M.O.P.S. (Maryville Old-School Paranormal Society) had just started their own husband and wife investigating team the year before. I had started talking to Randy about the paranormal on another fb ghost hunting page, Ghost Cowboys Paranormal. I fell in love with a photo M.O.P.S. had caught on an investigation (Cowboy in the Cemetery). It interested me enough, so I started talking to Randy even more about the paranormal. Randy’s big wish for the M.O.P.S. fb page was to have more people like their page so that they could bring together the paranormal community. I saw the need to help with this, so I started promoting them on fb by going to other paranormal team pages and inviting them to like the M.O.P.S. page. Mind you, they did not ask me to do this. I just started doing it lol! Well I guess I earned my place on the team, when Randy gave me a job title. The funniest part about this whole thing is that I live 70 miles or so north of Dallas, Texas, while Randy and Doris live in Maryville, Tennessee! I still help with public relations work for them, and I plan on getting out there to visit and do an investigation when Randy starts investigating again.

9. Will you ever quit working in the paranormal, and have you ever had a moment that you felt like quitting and why?

I think I will always in some capacity be working in the paranormal field. Even though I’m not a full-fledged investigator at this time, I plan to get to that point after some more study and personal time opens up that I can start my own team in the future. For right now, I am happy with the public relations work I do for both Amy and M.O.P.S. It keeps me busy, along with my fb page, Paranormal Stalker, my personal life with my family, and my full time job as a medical administrative assistant. I haven't thought of quitting the paranormal, but have gotten frustrated with many people who are extremely self-involved and cause a lot of trouble for others. I will NOT associate with those types of people, no matter how much they or others preach paranormal unity.

10. Any websites you would like to share? Your own? or one that has helped you as an artist?

Yes, there’s a few!! lol.

The first one is dear to my heart because it's Randy's medical website. He is terminally ill with Emphysema and COPD. Disability has been denying his requests for coverage, and he has no insurance, so all of the specialist care he's needed has been out of pocket. His wife Doris works a full time job inside the bakery of a grocery store, and what little she makes cannot begin to cover all the bills they have in order to live. Thank God for good people who donate to his cause so he can go to the doctor and get his medication. The website is full of information about Randy's disease, and what's going on with him.

11. If you could go back in time and meet one person who would it be and why?

I have often thought about that, but I always come up blank. So I guess I'd say Elvis lol. The reason being, my mom is a huge Elvis fan, and when I was a baby she had the chance to go see him, but it didn't work out. He died not long after, so she never had the chance again. I would want to meet him so I could bring my mom along. I also think he was a fascinating person because of how humble and generous he was.

12. How did you go about starting your own site, Paranormal Stalker?

I was heavily influenced by Randy DeLong, who is a real history buff, along with being a great mentor to those who are just starting out in the paranormal field. As I was learning from him, I could see that history is very important to the paranormal field. It helps to know the history of a place you've investigated because it can bring to light any evidence you may have caught. I decided that I would start a page that shared evidence from paranormal teams all over the world, in a unique way... by sharing the history of these locations, featuring not only groups that caught evidence there, but the locations themselves. I've been able to share a lot of interesting evidence from a lot of fascinating haunted locations in the past 9 months!

13. Why do you think that the paranormal genre is so popular?

I attribute the success of the paranormal genre to the movies. I can remember since the early 90s, the paranormal movies have gotten better and better. I would attribute the success of ghost hunting to TAPS and their show Ghost Hunters on SyFy. That is a show I watched and learned a few things from before I started in the paranormal field.

14. If you had the chance to live in a book, what book and what character would you be?

I honestly have lived in every book I've ever read! When I'm reading a book, it's almost like I'm in it. I become very involved in the characters and what's happening in the book. I can't pick just one book, I've loved them all :)

15. Who did your cover art for Paranormal Stalker? Did you design it yourself?

April Abercrombie of Abercrombie Research in Colorado. She is fantastic with digital art! I had a hand in the design because I knew what I wanted, and she was the genius who helped to put it all together. I am quite picky, so the fact that she put up with me without coming to Texas to rip my head off is amazing! She's a very patient woman :)

**

1. When did you start writing/painting/playing music/doing photography?
AMY: I have been writing for twelve years and ghost hunting for almost four years.

2. What inspired you to do it?
AMY: I had the opportunity. Opportunity is a rare thing that doesn’t often knock twice. Timing was right for me to start a ghost hunting group thus began the ghost hunting. I had the courage and encouragement needed to self-publish a story I had written and that in itself presented the opportunity, so I did it! My original inspiration for writing twelve years ago was as way of escape. I was going through a tough time and my stories, in a way, saved me.

3. Any new projects coming up?
AMY: I am always looking for places to investigate - never know where I might be from one month to the next! No big projects coming up soon though. As far as writing goes, I do intend to publish more books, my first was Whispering Coves, but I will be publishing Devon’s Curse soon and then Sisters Forevermore.

4. Do you find it hard to share your work with others?
AMY: Ghost hunting is a difficult thing to share at times but the field has grown so much it is becoming easier and easier to gain acceptance and even interest in what I do. My stories are more difficult to share with people, my books are like my children and a part of me will always be afraid they aren’t good enough. You really put yourself out there when you allow others to read and critique your work.

5. What is your opinion on people who post bad reviews?
AMY: It depends on why they are posting them. If they are just being honest but not belittling the writer then I think they can be helpful. Reviews are really important especially for a self-published author, I think we all hope for the good ones!

6. What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
AMY: In the ghost hunting field the best advice I can give is to find someone you trust to help you get started and teach you the ropes. It’s important to do things right, not just to save your reputation, but also that of the fields. In self-publishing or writing, I say the same…it helps to have someone that can guide you in the self-publishing process - I was very lucky to have one Johanna Pontes Frappier helping me! Most important is to learn to trust yourself and your talent, believe in yourself and go for it! You’ll never know just how good you are until you step out of your comfort zone and let others read your work.

7. Did your art come from just a need to express yourself or a particular experience that you had?
AMY: Ghost hunting came as a passion. I think everyone wants to experience the paranormal in some sense… I have always wanted to know - Do ghosts exist? Writing came out of a need…I need to write, I need to explore the what-if’s of the world, I need to live through my books or stories. I need the escape sometimes, too.

8. How did you get started?
AMY: In ghost hunting I was lucky to stumble across a group when it was starting out fresh. In writing, I started years and years ago, probably as a child playing Barbies and acting out stories in my bedroom with Ken and Barbie. Writing for me is a form of playing Barbies, an adult version that is perfectly acceptable and allows me to be creative and in control of the lives I create.

9. Will you ever stop creating art? and have you ever had a moment that you felt like quitting and why?
AMY: In writing no, I have never wanted to quit and never will…it’s a part of me that I enjoy far too much to ever give up. In ghost hunting, yes, many moments as the field is full of drama and competition. Beauty pageants are the only place that should have that much competition and drama…not a field meant to gain answers and help others. Many join the field for stardom…they are the ones that feel the need to compete in my opinion and the ones I like to avoid.

10. Any websites you would like to share? Your own? or one that has helped you as an artist?
AMY: I have two - my ghost hunting group, Just Curious Paranormal Studies is www.justcuriousparanormalstudies.webs.com
and my new author website should be up and running soon, it is www.authoramyarmbruster.webs.com

11. If you could go back in time and meet one person who would it be and why?
AMY: I’d like to meet Bertha Gifford, I know most have not heard of her, but she was allegedly one of the first female serial killers in the United States. Don’t believe all you google on this woman though! I did extensive research a few years ago on Mrs. Gifford as I was leading tours at a local hotel where she was said to have once worked at. My research led me to a wonderful book called Tainted Legacy written by S. Kay Murphy, her great-granddaughter! I am so intrigued by this story and if I could go back in time to meet one person it would have to be Bertha Gifford! I would love to know who she really was and if she could have intentionally killed the people she is accused of killing. Deep down, I just know there is so much more to her story!

12. Have you received any bad reviews and if so how did you deal with it?
AMY: My first book, Whispering Coves, did receive a bad review. It was called “clumsy and full of errors”. Ouch! That stung! However, I dealt with it by taking the GOOD in the review to heart (like when she said I was a good storyteller and had definite talent) and remembering next time not to get so eager to publish that I miss mistakes I should have caught. I have since posted two revised editions - doing my best to make it error free. I have also received 12 very good reviews!

13. Why do you think that the paranormal genre is so popular?
AMY: Should we contribute our success to Jay & Grant on Ghost Hunters? Or should we contribute it to the fact that EVERYONE is intrigued by the mysteries of life! It’s a fun subject with no real boundaries for our creative minds to adhere to. I do think it’s wonderful that shows like Ghost Hunters has made it possible to speak of paranormal experiences without feeling awkward or silly. Why it’s so popular I just can’t say but I sure am glad it is!

14. If you had the chance to live in a book, what book and what character would you be?
AMY: I don’t have to, I already have lived all the characters in my book, all the stories I have imagined and scenarios I have created, all the places I have written about…don’t you see? I’ve already been there! I have lived hundreds of lives and all of them have, thus far, ended happily ever after!

15. Who does your cover art? Do you design it yourself?
AMY: I take all the photographs that I use for the covers of my book and design them myself. I am hoping to continue to do so!
I found this great article about Baba Yaga written by Freya@realmagick.com
