This is the perfect fairy tale, the perfect ghost story. It's beautiful and creepy all at the same time. I love the over-the-top ghost of Christmas present - he looks like he's fun to party with, and yet, he also looks like he'd take your head off with one swing of his jolly fist. And the two kids in the coat - Ignorance and Want - yeah, I'll never get that image out of my head. For all of its magic, Christmas evokes nostalgia - death, tucked close to our sides.
I saw a cartoon version of A Christmas carol as a young ne'er do well and the children at the end haunted me for years.
